OAKLAND, Calif. -- Instead of basking in the teams biggest win in more than a decade, the Oakland Raiders know that beating the defending Super Bowl champions on a prime-time stage wont mean much if it isnt followed up by more significant victories down the stretch. The formula the Raiders used to knock off the Denver Broncos 30-20 on Sunday night to take over sole possession of first place in the AFC West could help lead to the sort of success Oakland has lacked for years. We know we cant look at this game as something thats going to define us or define the season, running back Latavius Murray said. We have to continue to go out there and work hard and were going to have to earn every game we play. They did just that against Denver. Murray ran for 114 yards and three touchdowns to pace a rushing attack that gained 218 yards against one of the NFLs stingiest defenses. It shows us that we should be able to run the ball against anybody, quarterback Derek Carr said. They are the best. They are.Oaklands previously porous defense befuddled rookie Trevor Siemian and bottled up Denvers run game. And it was the Raiders who were more poised than the Broncos, who committed 12 penalties -- many that helped extend Oakland drives. Its not like we won the championship or they won the championship today, Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr. said. Theres still a lot of football left to play, and weve just got to get back to business. But by dominating the trenches and controlling the clock for 41:28, the Raiders were able to expose a weakness in Denvers otherwise stellar defense.Thats something that we have to fix, Harris said. Its been leaky pretty much all season. So we have to figure that out and really put an emphasis on that, and get back to doing what we do.Here are some other takeaways from the game:DEFENSIVE TURNAROUND: After being unable to stop almost anyone to start the season, the Raiders defense has picked it up of late. Oakland held Tampa Bay under 300 yards of offense in an overtime win last week and limited Denver to just 299 on Sunday. Oakland set the tone by forcing Denver into three-and-outs on the first four possessions. We dont want to depend on the offense, safety Reggie Nelson said. Theyve been carrying us for a while. It was big for our defense. It was nice to get out there and win.GROUNDED: The Broncos once again struggled to run the ball with leading rusher C.J. Anderson sidelined by a knee injury . Rookie running back Devontae Booker was held to 22 yards on 10 carries, and Denver ran for just 33 yards on 12 attempts against what had been one of the leagues worst run defenses the first half of the season. It was the least productive game for the Broncos on the ground since they were held to 28 yards on 10 carries in a loss to St. Louis on Nov. 16, 2014. Booker has run for just 76 yards on 29 carries in two games since Anderson went on IR.Weve got to find a way to run the football somehow, some way, to help our football team, coach Gary Kubiak said. Obviously the last two weeks its been pretty much non-existent.STAND UP: Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall ended his season-long protest of the national anthem. Marshall began kneeling for the anthem for the season opener and did it the first eight games, following the lead of his former college teammate, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. But Marshall decided before this game it was time to stand up again.I helped bring awareness to what Kaepernick had started and it was time for me, not to move on but to stand up. Im still doing things, Marshall said.UP NEXT: The Broncos head to New Orleans next week to play the Saints, while the Raiders get the week off before traveling to Mexico City to take on Houston.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFLQadree Ollison Womens Jersey . -- There were a lot of firsts for the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. The FIAs World Motor Sport Council has ratified a series of rule changes for the 2017 season, including new rules around wet weather starts and the stockpiling of engine components. The changes are designed to tidy up existing rules and close loopholes in the regulations that have become clear this season.Engine stockpiling clampdownThe changes to prevent stockpiling of engine components was proposed after Mercedes decided to amass a 65-place grid penalty at the Belgian Grand Prix. As a cost saving measure, when a driver uses more than their allocation of engine components for the season they are hit with grid penalties, but the spirit of the regulation is open to abuse. In the knowledge that Lewis Hamilton could start no lower than 22nd on the grid in Belgium, Mercedes fitted three new power units to his car over the weekend in order to concentrate all his penalties on one race while ensuring he had fresh engines for the rest of the season. In reaction to the component stockpiling in Spa, the FIA has made the following change to the regulations: During any single event, if a driver introduces more than one of a power unit element that is subject to penalty, only the last element fitted may be used at subsequent events without further penalty. This is to prevent the stockpiling of spare power unit elements.Wet weather startsFollowing a downpour ahead of the British Grand Prix, the race was started under a safety car leading to a single file procession at the start of the first racing lap. Fans complained that they were robbed of a standing start and as a result the procedure for starting races in wet conditions has been changed.A new procedure regarding wet weather starts was also accepted, an FIA statement explained. From 2017, if a safety car is deemed to be required for thee beginning of a race due to wet weather, a normal standing start will occur once the track is deemed safe to race.dddddddddddd The process will see the safety car return to the pit lane and the cars assemble on the grid for the start.Uniform early-2017 tyre allocationsA new rule this season has seen teams pick which compound tyres they wish to use at a race weekend. Although the change has been a success, leading to mixed strategies and less predictable racing, it requires tyre choices to be made well in advance. Because next years tyres will not be tested until the two pre-season tests ahead of Australia, teams faced the problem of picking tyres before they had even seen them. As a result the FIA and Pirelli will specify which tyres the teams receive. For the first five events of the 2017 Championship season only, the normal team selection procedure for tyres will not be used as the deadline occurs before pre-season testing. For these events the supplier will allocate two sets of the hardest compound specification, four sets of the medium compound specification and seven sets of the softest compound specification to each driver. The Haas ruleThe FIA has also moved to clarify the rules around teams working together in collaborative agreements, such as the relationship between Haas and Ferrari before the American team joined this season. The World Motor Sport Council confirmed changes to Appendices 6 and 8 of the 2017 F1 Sporting Regulations which clarify outsourcing arrangements and conduct permitted regarding Listed Parts, Non-Listed Parts, wind tunnel testing and personnel transfer between teams engaged in a working or developmental relationship.
