LOS ANGELES, Calif. - When a pair of two-time defending champions in their respective leagues met at Dodger Stadium, even the Los Angeles Galaxy were a bit surprised to come out on top of mighty Juventus. Landon Donovan scored the tiebreaking goal on a pass from Robbie Keane in the 60th minute, and the Galaxy beat Juventus 3-1 Saturday night in the International Champions Cup tournament. Nobody from the Galaxy ascribed much importance to the result, but the Galaxys fans got extra enjoyment from their clubs first appearance at Dodger Stadium, the venerable 51-year-old Southern California landmark. "Our team played well, (but) the result isnt going to change anything in this world," Los Angeles coach Bruce Arena said. "We played well against a very good team, but we understand its an exhibition. I dont want to play them when it really counts." Omar Gonzalez scored in the first half, and Keane added a goal in the 88th minute on a terrible turnover by Andrea Pirlo as the back-to-back Major League Soccer champion Galaxy beat the two-time defending Serie A champions in the second soccer match ever played at Dodger Stadium. Real Madrid beat Everton 2-1 in the doubleheaders first game to advance to the tournament final. "Especially for our players from Southern California, it was great to see the excitement in the stands while we were here," Arena said. "Its a really good experience for our local players and our young players." Although the rest of the tournament schedule hasnt been announced, Los Angeles is expected to play in the third-place game in Miami on Wednesday night, likely against the loser of Chelseas match with AC Milan on Sunday outside New York. With Donovan, Keane and Robbie Rogers working in concert, the Galaxy performed splendidly for their hometown fans against Juventus, repeatedly controlling play and possession against their powerful opponents. Alessandro Matri scored in the 39th minute for Juventus, which lost to Everton and the Galaxy in consecutive games in California this week. Coach Antonio Conte thinks the second straight loss to a theoretically inferior opponent will put his talented club on notice before the Serie A season begins in three weeks. "Its good that this very bad loss happened during the preseason, when it doesnt matter," Conte said through a translator. "We have to go back and get organized for the season. We understand were not doing things properly, and we need to go back to the hard work that got us two championships in Italy." Both teams had good chances early on, with Rogers constantly causing trouble for Juventus from the wing. Los Angeles took the lead when Gonzalez left his defensive position and charged into the box, taking a pass from Juninho and chipping a goal over Gianluigi Buffon. Three minutes later, Matri capitalized on a scramble in the Galaxy box, banging a hard shot off Brian Rowe for a goal. Keane and Pirlo, the Italian national team star, entered the game at halftime. Keane hadnt played since injuring his hip in a match against Portland three weeks ago, but the Irish national team captain immediately got back to top form, putting the Galaxy back ahead with a pass across the box to Donovan for a tap-in goal. Juventus pressed in the second half, but Pirlo doomed his club with a tentative back-pass that was pounced upon by Keane, who flicked it past Buffon for the clinching score. Its been a rough trip for the 34-year-old Pirlo, who also missed a penalty kick at the end of Juventus loss to Everton in San Francisco. "We need everybody to wake up, and I put myself as the first one," Conte said. "We have great players, a great roster, but in these last two years, weve always gone beyond our limits with hard work and determination. We need to go back to that. They were in better shape and faster than us." Air Force 270 Deutschland . A knee to the thigh might have stung him the most, but his sixth straight double-double made up for the brief burst of pain. NEW YORK -- He has been the best player in mens tennis for the past five years, ranked No. 1 for 113 consecutive weeks. But for a variety of resonating reasons, Novak Djokovic doesnt feel like the favorite here at the US Open. That would be No. 2 seed Andy Murray, riding the wave of his recent victories in Wimbledon and Rio de Janeiro. Full disclosure: The oddsmakers still favor Djokovic by the slightest of margins.Murray absolutely wrecked Lukas Rosol in the opening round, dropping only seven games. Djokovic gave away that many in a single set -- and 13 overall -- in an uninspired initial outing against Jerzy Janowicz. All in all, this is probably a good thing for Djokovic, who lately has been fraying at his ends.On Wednesday afternoon, he received the best news possible: Jiri Vesely pulled out of their second-round match with a left forearm injury. Vesely actually had a career 1-0 record against Djokovic after winning earlier this spring in Monte Carlo. This gives the 29-year-old three full days of non-match rest, which gives his sore left wrist and right arm a chance to recover for his third-round match against either Guido Pella or Mikhail Youzhny.Djokovic came into this US Open as the defending champion, but was knocked out of the Rio Olympics in the first round by Juan Martin del Potro and forced to withdraw from the recent tournament in Cincinnati. The wrist was the issue coming in, but when Djokovic called for the ATP World Tour trainer to work on his arm during that first-round match, more red flags were raised. Afterward, he understandably declined to get into specifics about his physical condition. To be honest, I take it day by day, Djokovic said. Thats what I feel at the moment. Its good, as I said, just to finish the match. Im pleased that as the match progressed I was feeling better and better.I hope that Illl feel overall good so Im able to perform at my best for the next match.dddddddddddd.Djokovic, like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, is experiencing some of the difficulties that come from being at the top of his craft. All tennis players suffer stress on their joints, but the ones who go deepest into draws feel it the most. In the past 52 weeks, Djokovic has played 84 matches, the most in tennis. Murray (78) and Milos Raonic (66) are next in line. Not only is Djokovic the father of a 1-year-old, Stefan, he was recently elected president of the player council, a position that requires time and leadership abilities.Despite all the swirling questions, Djokovic has a chance to do something quite rare. With a title here, he can join Roger Federer (2006-07) as the second man to win three majors in consecutive years. And consider this bit of fortuitous statistical fodder: Djokovic has won seven straight matches against the highest-seeded player in his half of the draw, No. 4 Rafael Nadal, and has never lost to the next two, No. 5 Milos Raonic (7-0) and No. 7 Marin Cilic (14-0).After his first-round match, Djokovic did not sound like a man succumbing to the hysteria of the moment.I have more than enough happiness in my life and blessings to be a father and a husband, he said. Life is wonderful. I mean, there is no doubt about it. I cannot sit here and complain and whine about the issues that everybody has in each day in their lives, privately, professionally. When you expect the least, thats when you have things coming at you as lifes lessons. Im glad that Im able to accept them and to greet them with a consciousness of wanting to evolve and wanting to get the best out of them. Thats all I can say. ' ' '
